Harvesting Installation?
Overview
Rainwater harvesting has the potential to save a large volume of mains water and reduce pressure on resources. Water that would otherwise be lost can be used instead to flush toilets, water gardens and feed washing machines.
The systems substantially reduce consumption of potable water by using the roof (and only the roof) as a collector of rainwater. This water is stored underground and can be used for the garden hose supply, flushing toilets and washing machines.
As the population grows and water reserves decline, the need for rainwater harvesting systems becomes evermore important, as these systems replace water usage in a safe and convenient way.
Benefits
- Average households can expect to save up to 50% of their water consumption by installing rain water harvesting system.
- Systems come in various forms including, direct feed to house, high water table system and a developer pack system. This variation allows for systems to be incorporated into many locations
- Reduces water bills
- Reduces the impact on the environment
- Complies with the Code For Sustainable Homes and counts towards 9% of the overall target.
Am I eligible?
There are a number of installation options available for rainwater harvesting products to ensure that they meet a variety of need and applications.
When installing, considerations of depth and area available to fit the system need to be observed. To ensure the system is correct for your project, Greenworks offer advice on the best solution to meet your needs.
3 types of systems are currently available to meet your requirements including Direct Feed Home systems, High water table systems which can be incorporated into more limited spaces and Developer pack systems which also provide options for areas of limited space.
- Choosing a system which doesn't require a concrete base will save up to £400 on unsustainable concrete.
- Choosing a system that does not refill using portable water during dry spells, and has a self cleaning filter to cut down on maintenance.
Funding and Grants
Although funding and grants are not currently available for Rainwater harvesters at present, products do award points in the Code for Sustainable Homes. The water conservation category alone is worth more than 11% in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
