Overview

Roofing systems have a key role to play in maximising the environmental efficiency of any building. A roof provides an interface with the external environment and performs a variety of basic functions, including shelter from the elements, shade from the sun, structural support and vital insulation.

However, a well designed roof can also fulfil a number of other requirements that contribute to a more sustainable building:

  • Allowing in daylight through rooflights and sun tunnels.
  • Collecting rainwater for domestic use through the use of Rainwater Harvesting systems and water butts.
  • Collecting the sun's energy for power and heat through the use of solar thermal and solar pv collectors.
  • Providing ventilation and heat recovery.
  • The retention of heat through the use of insulation.

Greenworks offers a range of solutions and training courses that perform many of these requirements.

Roof trusses

Roof trusses hugely reduce the amount of time spent installing the roof structure. The vast majority of cutting usually associated with traditional roof construction is eliminated, and designs which would have been impossible with traditional methods, or would have required steel structures, are easily achieved by using engineered timber.

Spandrel panels

Spandrel panels incorporate a specially designed and factory produced timber framed panel to separate walls that would otherwise have been constructed in masonry.

Benefits

  • One trade, time-saving roof solution.
  • Avoid additional scaffolding cost.
  • Comply with current building regulations for fire and sound.

Glulam (Glued Laminated Timber)

Glulam's tensile characteristics make it suitable for long span and loadbearing widths. It is an exceptionally strong material, and is usually used where visual appearance is important and it can be shaped to form spacious buildings. Glulam is an environmentally friendly, low energy product.

  • Engineered timber has great performance.
  • Professional indemnity insurance can be provided with roof trusses

Smartroof Cassettes

Smartroof® roof cassettes bring a whole new way to construct roofs. This revolutionary panel system simply slots together, spans between gable ends and is designed to take all imposed roofing loads.

Cassettes are manufactured using either I-beams or Posi-joists" to meet customer requirements. Lifting straps are built into the cassettes ensuring safe lifting for both transportation and site erection. The decking material is subject to the requirements of the final floor - OSB boarding, plywood or chipboard can all be specified. Chain of Custody certification can be requested.

Benefits

  • The Smartroof® heat-saving, environmentally friendly, timber panel system creates instant room space, thereby helping to comply with some of the Code for Sustainable Homes requirements.
  • The use of cassette floor panels can improve on-site safety and dramatically speed up the erection process. Engineered timber floor cassettes complement timber frame structures.
  • Smartroof® eliminates expensive purlins that intrude into living space and has been engineered to provide for the most commonly used spans.
  • The external face can be supplied ready battened and the Smartroof® system allows for window openings to be pre-formed.
  • Greenworks is able to offer complete structural calculations, with fully detailed layout drawings that enable you to erect a roof that is weather resistant within one day.
